Problem solved?

What does it mean to you when you are told that a problem is solved? Most respond with a focus on the end result. Ensuring a condition has changed. While important, it is equally important to examine the state of your team at the end of the process. Too many executives force a process that provides no sense of safety, and a diverse range of ideas are stifled. Firefighting mode is usually the culprit. The solution will be flawed from the outset, because it is rooted in defensiveness and blaming. Results will be temporary at best. Cultivate an atmosphere that is safe for the team members to offer ideas, and bring a diverse group of backgrounds together. The results will exceed your expectations.
