Stop overproduction
Stop overproduction. Too many open orders, in production or sales, is a big problem. Processes jam, priorities are not clearly delineated, and the flow is disrupted. The impact on production is easily visualized, but the impact on sales is equally catastrophic. Overproduction will result in multiple projects being open at the same time. This will require increasing levels of multi-tasking; which is inevitably going to have an increasingly poor level of performance. Each time one project, or resource, requires the time and attention of the same salesperson; the negative consequences of multi-tasking intensify. The conflict creating this problem exists between two ideas. First, filling the sales funnel with enough opportunities. Second, filling the sales funnel with any request the client produces. Limiting the volume of sales orders a company accepts into the funnel will increase the quality of the projects, and it will increase the flow (flow for sales is the positive response rate from customers). Overproduction in sales is disastrous; the same way it damages a manufacturing organization.
